Knowledge of the Marketplace

I was born and raised in Ulster County and have lived here most of my life, and though, I have traveled the world, I can tell you that there few places as beautiful as the mid-Hudson Valley region of New York State.

I have had the opportunity to live in several towns in Ulster County including, Tillson where I was born and New Paltz where I attended college as well as Cottekill,  High Falls and Rosendale, where I served on the Town Council for four years.

Over the years, I’ve become intimately familiar with most of the towns and communities that make up this amazing County. It has been a life-time love affair that I’ve always enjoyed sharing with people I meet. While in college in the '80s, I spent several years working at Lake Mohonk Mountain House as a tour guide leading hundreds of people on hikes through the extraordinary landscapes of the Shawungunk Mountains.

Interestingly enough, Mohonk is where my mother and father met and married in 1944. In 1946, my parents Pat and Shirley Cafferty founded what today is still the most successful bar and restaurant in Ulster County, P&G’s on Main Street in New Paltz. As the story goes, my father made the money to buy the bar by bootlegging booze to Mohonk’s guests and employees, which was dry at the time and did not serve alcohol. I guess you could say we have roots in the area.

I look forward to sharing this area with you and helping you discover what I’ve known my whole life; the Hudson Valley is a great place to live.
